Discover VELO
A map of cycle paths all over France, which shows where you ride protected from traffic and works out a route that avoids what is dangerous. Free, no account, no ads and no tracking. You can open it right now: there is nothing to install and nothing to accept.
What it does
-
It tells apart what other maps lump together
Separated cycle paths, painted cycle lanes, main roads to avoid — and the ways closed to bikes, which general-purpose maps don't show.
-
Ways closed to bikes don't exist in the calculation
The map will take a detour rather than send you down one, even if it is the shortest way. That is its one real distinguishing feature, and it is the one that matters.
-
It works without GPS
You can plan a trip from a computer, at home: tap a starting point, “start from here”, then where you're going.
-
It shows where to rent, pump up and repair
Bike rentals, repair workshops, pumps and water points, taken from public data.
What it can't do
Better to say so before you find out for yourself.
-
It doesn't name the streets
Turns are announced by distance and direction. The data that runs the map contains nothing but geometry.
-
It can be wrong
The data comes from OpenStreetMap: a recent road sign may be missing from it. What is on the ground comes first, and every information card lets you report an error.
-
Routes are worked out over fifteen kilometres at most
It is made for an outing and for the daily trip, not for planning a ride across a whole region.
In the press
The article is in French and is not translated here: it belongs to the newspaper. The French page gives its text.
What it does not do with your data
No account, no tracking, no ads, no notifications. Your position stays on your phone: it is not sent anywhere, and the map calls no server other than ours — this is checked automatically before each release, and the release is refused if a single outside address shows up.
Our server's logs contain no IP addresses: they are removed as the logs are written.
To help spread the word
If the map looks useful to your members, everything is ready to print, freely available and without asking us for anything.
-
A4 poster (in French)
For a noticeboard, club premises, a shop window. The same in A3 (in French).
-
Stickers to print (in French)
Small labels with the map's QR code, to put on a handlebar, a counter, a sign. Sheets ready for self-adhesive paper.
